Connecting Corners: Curb Ramps, Blended Transitions, Accessibility and PROWAG Basics
Curb ramps and blended transitions are critical connections in pedestrian access routes, allowing people to move between sidewalks and crosswalks. They must be designed and constructed so that they are usable by all pedestrians. This webinar will present the Laws, Standards, and Guidelines, regarding pedestrian accessibility. It will review requirements in the Public Right-of-Way Accessibility guidelines (PROWAG) for accessible curb ramps and blended transitions. Presenters will explain how legally required pedestrian accessibility can be achieved, the definition and practical meaning of curb ramps and blended transitions, explain how requirements apply differently in new construction versus alterations, and outline requirements for running and cross slope, landings, grade brakes, side treatments and detectable warning surfaces, as well as how these features connect to the pedestrian access route and crosswalk. This session will also address common design and construction issues including constrained sites and complex intersections. Registrants will be able to submit questions in advance during the registration process. Real-Time Captioning and Sign Language Interpretation will be provided.
