Section 508 Best Practices Webinar: Accessibility of Electronic Content: How to apply the Revised Section 508 Standards within a Federal Agency; What Resources are Available?

Learn what types of electronic content must be made accessible and how to apply the Revised 508 Standards.
Our presenter, Deborah Kaplan, 508 Policy Lead at the Office of the CIO, Department of Health and Human Services will share examples of policies and programs her agency has put in place to address the accessibility of electronic content. She will also familiarize the audience with the new resources in the Revised 508 Standards Refresh Toolkit for building organizational support for accessible electronic content and describe resources for content authors.

Ms. Kaplan is uniquely qualified to inspire innovative approaches to solving accessibility problems that are suited to a variety of organizations. She currently is responsible for developing and implementing Section 508 policy at HHS and has been involved in technology accessibility for many years serving in a number of roles. She headed the Accessibility Technology Initiative for the California State University System. She is also on the Executive Committee of the CIO Council Accessibility Community of Practice. She is a member of the Steering Committee of the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Marsha K. Mazz, Director of the Office of Technical and Information Services for the U.S. Access Board in Washington, DC will join Ms. Kaplan to outline how the Revised 508 Standards apply to electronic content. Ms. Mazz’s office is responsible for the continued development of the Section 508 Standards for Accessible Information and Communications Technology, the Americans with Disabilities Act and Architectural Barriers Accessibility Guidelines, and the Standards for Accessible Medical and Diagnostic Equipment

The presenters will respond to questions from the webinar attendees. They will share best practices, helpful tips, and will provide real-life examples to better prepare your agency to successfully meet its 508 obligations.
