On July 26th, Access Board Chair David L. Bibb announced the appointment of Mike Paciello and Jim Tobias as Co-Chairs of the Telecommunications and Electronic and Information Technology Advisory Committee. He also noted that Access Board member Jim Elekes will serve as the Board's liaison to the committee.

On July 6 we published a notice establishing an advisory committee to update and revise the Section 508 standards and the Telecommunications Act Accessibility Guidelines. Forty organization were selected to serve on the committee from the over 120 organizations who applied. I am pleased to announce that Jim Elekes will serve as the Board’s liaison to this new committee and that I have appointed two individuals as co-chairs. They are Mike Paciello, the Founder & Principal of the Paciello Group from Nashua, New Hampshire and Jim Tobias, Principal of Inclusive Technologies from Matawan, New Jersey.

Mr. Paciello is an international authority on Web accessibility and assistive technology. He co-founded the Web Accessibility Initiative for the World Wide Web Consortium and is the author of the best selling book, "Web Accessibility for People with Disabilities."

Mr. Tobias has worked on accessible and usable technology for more than 25 years first as a technician at Berkeley's Center for Independent Living and later as a Rehabilitation Engineer at Bell Labs and Bellcore as their in-house expert on disability issues.

The committee’s first meeting is scheduled for September 27-29 at the National Science Foundation in Arlington, VA.
