Section 508 Basics

Provide an introduction to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) accessibility for new 508 coordinators and relevant staff.  Participation is limited to Federal employees and contractors only, 100 participants maxium, and is an “in-person” training only.

Morning learning objectives include: introduction to the Access Board and accessibility issues; why Section 508 is important and common barriers encountered with ICT; common assistive technology used with ICT; understanding the law and enforcement; review the different parts of the standard as well as examples of covered products; testing; procurement and other issues, including time for discussion.

Afternoon learning objectives include:  background on WCAG; how WCAG is organized; difference between guidelines, principles and success criteria; where to find technical web assistance; review of each WCAG success criteria; how current 508 standards map to WCAG; proposed applicability to documents, software and email; and helpful resources.
