About the 508 Lunch and Learn Monthly Sessions

What? The Access Board hosts a lecture series on a variety of issues related to Section 508. Each lunch session centers on a theme, such as implementation of the regs or clarifying the 508 Standards. Sessions will generally feature remarks from a guest speaker, followed by ample time for questions and discussion.

When? The meetings will be scheduled regularly - usually bi-monthly on a Wednesday. They will last 90 minutes beginning at 12 noon (Eastern Time).

Where? The meetings will take place in the Access Board's conference room on the 10th floor at 1331 F Street, NW. (See map and directions). You supply your own lunch. The conference table has a limited capacity for 14 people and reservations are required to secure a spot. Seats fill up quickly.

Teleconferencing:
The Board has received an excellent response to this series and is now offering participation byteleconference. The conferencing service allows up to 250 lines, which are filled on a first come/first served basis. Although meeting participation is free of charge, individuals are responsible for the cost of the long distance call to the voice bridge. If interested in this option, contact David Baquis at baquis@access-board.gov (email), (202) 272-0013 (voice), or (202) 272-0082 (TTY).

Handraising:
Most of the participants will be muted while the guest speaker is delivering her remarks. When the call is opened for discussion, participants wishing to speak will need to press 5* (that’s five star) to get in queue. The moderator will then unmute individuals enabling them to be heard. This is a VoIP system that allows the moderator to see on a website the telephone numbers of everyone who dials-in.

Real-time Transcription:
All sessions will be transcribed real-time on a website as an accommodation for people with hearing loss. However, anyone can view it. A rough transcript of the session may also be saved. This service is provided through the Federal Relay Conference Captioning Service at http://www.fedrcc.us.

For whom? Anyone may participate: federal employees, contractors, manufacturers, consultants, state and educational entities, advocacy organizations, users with disabilities and other interested parties. You may attend more than one session, as the topic will be different each month.

Why? The sessions provide a forum for information sharing about Section 508. This compliments the good efforts of other federal agencies, such as DHS, SSA, GSA, PTO and VA, who have invited federal employees and members of the public to 508 classes and demonstrations.

Disclaimer: The Access Board does not guarantee the accuracy of information provided by guest speakers or other participants during the meetings.  In addition, any statements made by guest speakers or other participants during the meetings do not necessarily reflect the viewpoints, opinions, or recommendations of the Access Board.

Registration and Reservation: Reservations for in-person attendance is required. Registration for participation by teleconference is also requested because it enables the moderator to distribute a list of participant names prior to the call. This increases usability for everyone and serves as an accommodation for some persons with disabilities. To sign up, contact David Baquis at baquis@access-board.gov or 202-272-0013 (voice); (202) 272-0082 (TTY). You will receive a reply confirming your in-person attendance after we receive your email.
