RE: Clarification on ADA proposed requirements for small (under 65' long) vessels.
We are a marina owner/management company who has marinas on 4 different lake locations in Northern California.
We rent houseboats and patio boats to customers for their personal use. The proposed guidelines presented in:
ARCHITECTURAL AND TRANSPORTATION BARRIERS COMPLIANCE BOARD Published in the Federal Register on November 26, 2004. 36 CFR Part 1195 [Docket No. 2004-2] RIN 3014-AA11 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accessibility Guidelines for Passenger Vessels; Small Vessels
seems to address charter/cruise/water taxi type vessels only. We, again, rent the boats to a customer and they take the boat out on the lake. They operate the boat on their own, similiar to renting a RV for a day, weekend or an entire week. Our longest houseboat boat is 56' and our longest patio boat is 40'. The maximum amount of people allowed on the boats are 20.
What are the proposed ADA requirements as far as rental vessels? Are there any? Is so, where are they spelled out for our situation?
Sincerely,
Gary J. Eastland
