Section 11: State and Local Judicial, Legislative, and Regulatory Facilities General Requirements

State and local judicial, legislative, and regulatory facilities—like commercial office buildings—are required to follow basic requirements for access in ADAAG Sections 1-10. However, these types of buildings also have unique considerations that typical office buildings do not. For example, they often have:

• More stringent security considerations
• Specific communications requirements
• Specialized areas with interrelated functions
• Special architectural elements such as raised platforms
• Assistive listening requirements
• Public assembly areas

Because of these characteristics, judicial, legislative and regulatory facilities need specific access provisions in addition to those in ADAAG 1-10.
