Dear Access Board:
I am writing to request that you do not adopt the proposed rules that you sent
out June 171 2002. They need a lot of revision.
It is important to me and all taxpayers that we do not require transportation
departments to spend a lot of money uselessly. Nobody wants to hear a lot of
beeping and buzzing at intersections, and blind people do not need it. There
should be no audible traffic signals anywhere. Those that are already installed
should be removed. If an intersection is complex, you are aware that there are
vibrating signals which provide better information to the blind without
interfering with traffic sounds. Audible traffic signals are not needed at basic
Detectible warnings underfoot are not needed unless there is no difference
between the level of the sidewalk and the level of the street. So let's save
that money too.
